Frequently Asked Questions?
Is it safe?
In my experience, the parts of South Africa where I would recommend that you travel are as safe as many other parts of the world. However, you should act sensibly and exercise caution at all times with regard to personal safety and belongings. For example, I would not recommend driving at night or leaving any belongings visible in a car when parked.
When should I book?
As most families are tied to planning trips during the school holidays and half terms, the two most popular times to travel to South Africa are during the Christmas and Easter Holidays when it is cold and wet here, and hot and sunny there! Most of the hotels that I have suggested are generally quite small and only have a handful of family rooms available. For this reason, I would strongly urge that you plan and book your holiday as far ahead as possible in order to avoid the disappointment of not being able to book exactly what you want.
What is the youngest age you can take a child on safari?
There is no one answer to this, but you should bear in mind that children under the age of 7 yrs are not generally allowed on Adult Game Drives which is mainly for safety reasons. Game drives normally last for approx 3 hours and a young child is likely to get bored and fidgety within this time which may jeopardise the safety of the other guests. However, some of the safari camps that I have recommended do offer Kiddies Game Drives which are much shorter in length. Parents are welcome to join their children on these drives.
Do I need vaccinations?
Before departure it is advisable to check the latest innoculation recommendations from your local GP as medical advice changes on a regular basis. However, at the current time (March 2008) there are no innoculation requirements for South Africa or Mauritius. Yellow Fever certificates are required by people travelling from a yellow fever zone.
Why Book With Me?
- Product Knowledge - I have travelled extensively within South Africa and Mauritius and have personally checked out virtually all of the hotels and lodges that I am recommending, with a particular emphasis on what is suitable and not suitable for kids.
- Timing and Logistics - There is so much information about South Africa on the internet, in travel brochures etc for you to wade through which can be overwhelming and time wasting. By booking with me, I can save you much time and hassle, and can co-ordinate every aspect of your trip - airline connections, transfers, what works on certain days and what does not etc.
- Cost – The misconception is that booking a trip with a tour operator or travel agent costs you more. Not true! The cost to you, the consumer, is the same and often better, as we are able to pass on our good contract rates to you.
- Personalisation – I will not try and force any pre-packaged holiday upon you. All the holidays that I organise are customised for the individual based on your own requests.
